Seamanship, as taught in the NCC starts at a fairly basic level with knot tying, simple splicing and general sea terms. Class 1 seamanship involves more complex rope work and an element of shore-bases chart work. Most Seamanship is taught at the unit on Parade evenings, mid week classes or day courses, and is open to all cadets over the age of 12.
